Happy Clients
Working with Sam has been a delight! Sam brings so much energy and enthusiasm to the project and has great ideas!
-- Suzanne Madron, The Water Shed
Samantha is an excellent partner to work with and completed the narration of my book nearly flawlessly. She has a great sense of timing and is excellent at pronunciation and adding proper personality to the text to make it easy to listen to a potentially boring subject. Samantha was also very diligent and got the assignment completed before it was due. I can't recommend her services highly enough!
-- Reese L Stone, Contemporary Leadership Skills for Managers
Samantha was very professional and polite and had no problems staying with my schedule.
-- Rick Canady, Party Planning for Neurodivergents
This whole experience was such a treat for me. I really loved her performance and interpretation of my story. The way she made each character distinct helped the pacing of the story and dialog. There was some subtext that I tried to emphasize... and Sam brought that to the surface nicely. She captured the tension of the scene without being overdramatic.

Frequently Asked
Can You Edit and Produce My Project As Well As Act?
Yes! I'm happy to take on the entire production process, from pre-production through to post-production and mastering, and everything in between. Can You Deliver My Files to ACX Spec?
Of course! I'm happy to provide files to the spec of whatever platform you're uploading your work to. It does help to know in advance where you'd like your files hosted, as that influences production choices. What Kind of Audio Quality Can I Expect?
You can expect high-quality, professional-grade audio when we work together. The main concerns are not having too much background noise, ensuring audio is free of mistakes, and is clear and pleasing to listen to for long periods. I aim for these standards on every project I produce. But what about specifications? Okay, this one's for the producers...
I can deliver raw files with a noise floor of -60dB or lower, peaks in the -12 to -6 range, and with minimal low-frequency rumble or background reflections apparent in the audio.
If I'm producing files, I can deliver clean, polished audio to almost any standard.
Do You Take First-Time Authors?
I absolutely love working with authors on their debut projects! I'm happy to guide you through the process.I've Never Hired a Voice Actor Before. Can You Describe the Process?
Of course! Here's a bit of how it works...- We have an open and honest discussion about your goals for the project, my working rate, and expected timeline.
- We enter pre-production. I'll read your book, create sample voices for characters, and send them to you for your approval.
- Once those are approved, we enter the production phase. I'll submit the first chapter for your review just to be 100% sure you're happy.
- Once principal recording is completed, we enter post-production, in which I edit and master the project to make it sound its best.
- Finally, you'll get the finished project files formatted to match your platform of choice.
- The best part is, I do most of the work! You get to sit back and listen as your project comes to life.
Do You Use Professional-Grade Gear?
Absolutely. I use a Scarlett 2i2 interface, and edit in Reaper with a handful of carefully-selected, high-grade plugins, including plugins from iZotope RX10, Waves, and more. I choose my microphone to match the project, but have several available:- Shure SM7B
- Shure KSM32
- Rode NTG5
- Roswell Audio Mini k84 (my personal favorite for most applications)
Whatever your project, I'll find the right gear and recording settings to get something that sounds great on your project.
How Long Will It Take? How Much Do You Charge?
Both of those questions require the frustrating lawyer's answer: it depends.Generally, longer projects will take longer, and more complex projects will cost more. For example, if you want distinct voices for each character, and your project is dialogue-heavy, that tends to be more complicated than a project in which it's okay to do subtler variations to distinguish characters from each other.
I charge more for fiction projects for this reason.
Fees: For audiobook projects in which I both produce and act, I charge per finished hour (better known as PFH). Generally speaking, one finished hour of audio is about 9,000 words, so a 90,000 word novel will be roughly 10 hours of finished audio.
While it's more affordable to hire me to solely act (rather than act, and produce, including editing, mastering, etc.), if you've never edited an audiobook project before, it's not as easy as it sounds, and it's both faster and, in the end, cheaper to hire me for a producer role rather than just an actor role.
Timeline: Generally speaking, any given project will take at least 2 weeks to complete, but may take longer depending on other commitments. Rush rates are available if you're in a hurry.
Do You Offer Directed Sessions?
Yes! I'm happy to do directed sessions via Zoom, for an added fee.My Project Has Both Male and Female Narrators. Can You Reccomend a Male Voice Actor to Partner With?
Yes and no... I'd strongly advise you let me take a shot at both parts. I've voiced plenty of male characters in the past and have an impressively deep vocal range when called on. I can convincingly narrate both male and female roles, simplifying the production process and ensuring high quality and consistent reads for all characters.Do You Take Royalty-Split Projects?
Generally speaking, no. For the dozens of hours of work each audiobook takes, most producers make far less than minimum wage on royalty-split projects.I am happy to discuss royalty-plus-PFH for established authors, but unless you've got a solid sales record and a ravenous fanbase just waiting to devour your next book, the numbers just won't work out for the amount of work involved.
